Listening Band Score IELTS Introduction
The IELTS exam has four parts: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Each one has equal weight and you can score between 0 and 9 for each section. It’s possible to score full (8.0) or half (8.5) for each section. In the end, the scores are added together and rounded up or down to the nearest half (7.0 or 5.5, for example).
The listening section of the IELTS takes around 30-40 minutes and consists of 40 questions. Please note that you don’t lose points for incorrect answers so be sure to make a guess at every question.

General vs Academic Listening Score
For the IELTS exam, there is a general and an academic option. Most countries require the general one for immigration purposes while universities and colleges usually require the academic one. Businesses may require either one for employment. Check carefully to see specifically which one you’ll need.
For speaking and listening, the exam is exactly the same and scored in the same way. What is different between the general IELTS and the academic IELTS is the reading and writing portions.
